Smart Siemens showcases digital future, Acquiring Kaco

Siemens is showcasing how the digitalisation of renewable energy, storage and distribution can positively impact the energy transition and sustainability goals at the The smarter E-Europe trade show in Munich this week.

It will present solutions and services for planning, installing and operating individual supply solutions based on renewable energy and intelligent energy management systems for buildings, infrastructure and industry.

There will also be a chance to learn about systems and products for the grid integration solar power plants, battery storage and charging infrastructure for electromobility.

Siemens chief executive of smart infrastructure Cedrik Neike said: “We are supporting our customers to turn the challenges of the energy transition into business opportunities.

“We are investing to shape the market at the grid edge: we have refreshed our portfolio of eMobility charging solutions; acquired power electronics leader, KACO new energy; and are consolidating our leadership in battery storage with our joint venture Fluence.”

Siemens’s photovoltaic electrical balance of plant or eBoP system aims to connect PV plants to medium- or high-voltage grids.

It includes the PV SKid Outdoor platform, a plug-and-play solution with switchgear, transformer and Sinacon 1500V inverters.

The latter are suitable for use in large solar power plants, even under harsh environmental conditions, said Siemens.

The LDM-P busbar trunking system from the Sivacon 8PS portfolio is designed specifically for the requirements of PV and container stations.

Compared with cables, the system allows the distribution of large amounts of electricity even in a limited space.

Siemens added that Electromobility is a key building block for a sustainable and integrated climate, energy and mobility strategy.

It offers end-to-end solutions for charging infrastructure and components, charge management systems as well as complete end-to-end solutions and consulting services.

These include the SiCharge CC AC22 charging station for electric vehicles.

It can charge electric vehicles in about 45 minutes for a range of 100km, depending on the battery charging system used in the car.

A next generation charging unit for residential buildings and commercial parkings will also be presented at the trade fair.

It extends the company’s residential Junelight and professional SiCharge portfolio.

The smart charger has a power output of up to 22kW and is equipped with wi-fi and ethernet interfaces, Siemens said.
